This index compares all 50 states across four normalized indicators. A higher Kink Score reflects stronger combined signals of adult-store access, online search interest, and self-reported sexual frequency. It should not be read as a measure of individual behavior.
The weighted inputs were adult stores per 1M adults 35%, NSFW searches per 1K residents 30%, average sex frequency per week 25%, and kink searches per 10K residents 10%. The weights balance offline adult-oriented access, online curiosity, and self-reported activity.
To build the score, adult-store counts were sourced from OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API using locations tagged as shop=erotic, with missing state markers assigned through Nominatim reverse geocoding. Average sex frequency came from the NapLab Sex Survey. NSFW content and kink search volumes came from Google Keyword Planner estimates in the supplied campaign dataset. Each metric was converted to a percentile rank before being combined into a final Kink Score out of 100.
Limitations: search volume reflects online curiosity rather than confirmed participation or personal preference. The top-kink data uses a curated seed list, OpenStreetMap may not capture every adult-oriented retailer, and small states can be more sensitive to outliers in per-capita metrics.
